Hermosa Creek Trail

From Salt Creek, north, the trail follows along  the crystal clear waters of  Hermosa Creek.
It is tranquil when the water is low, but a raging torrent in the spring, often covering the trail completely.

Yours truly crossing  Hermosa Creek near Big Bend Creek  in the mid 60's.

There were no fancy bridges then .  There where some old wooden bridges in 1963, but they were washed out a few years later. After that it was not possible to complete the whole trip in the spring during high water without making a portage around the section between two of the bridges until new bridges were built years later..

Note the edge of the bridge to the right of the center of the frame.

Curtains of icicles  hang from these and other cliffs in the winter. Cross country skiing the Hermosa  Trail end-to-end is an experience you'll never forget.

Of course, riding it is pretty awesome too.
